The Four Plan Tiers

ACA Metal Tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold & Platinum

Most Florida residents don’t need a degree in plan design to choose. We walk through the tiers with you on the phone and match you to the right one based on your doctors, prescriptions, and how often you actually use care. All four tiers cover the same essential health benefits — the difference is how costs are split between you and the insurer.

How Subsidies Change Everything

Your Monthly Cost Depends on Your Income — Not the Sticker Price

Premium tax credits reduce what you actually pay each month. Many Florida residents qualify for plans significantly below full price — and some qualify for $0 premium plans. The key is applying your subsidy correctly before comparing tiers.

Subsidy eligibility is based on your household income and size
Credits apply to any tier — Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum
Silver plans unlock additional Cost Sharing Reductions for qualifying households
We verify your eligibility before recommending any plan

Why Silver Plans Are Often the Best Value

Cost Sharing Reductions: The Hidden Benefit of Silver Plans

Silver plans are the only tier eligible for Cost Sharing Reductions (CSRs) — additional savings that can dramatically lower your deductible and out-of-pocket costs if your income qualifies.

Income Level
CSR Benefit
Example Deductible
100–150% FPL
Maximum savings
As low as $100–$300
150–200% FPL
Strong savings
Around $500–$800
200–250% FPL
Moderate savings
Around $1,500–$2,500
Above 250% FPL
Standard Silver plan
Standard deductible

CSR values are approximate and vary by plan and county. If you qualify, choosing a Bronze plan instead of Silver means giving up these additional savings entirely. This is why Silver is often the smarter choice even with a slightly higher premium.

How to Choose the Right Tier

There’s More to a Plan Than the Monthly Bill

The most common mistake Florida residents make is choosing a plan based on monthly premium alone. A cheap premium with a $7,000 deductible can cost far more than a Silver plan once you actually use care.

Start with your income
Your subsidy eligibility changes the entire comparison.
Check your doctors first
A cheap plan with the wrong network costs more in the end.
Verify your prescriptions
Formulary tiers vary significantly between plans.
Compare total cost
Premium + deductible + copays + max out-of-pocket.
If you qualify for CSRs, choose Silver
Choosing Bronze means losing that savings entirely.
The cheapest plan is not always the lowest-cost plan once deductibles, doctors, prescriptions, and subsidies are factored in.

Common Questions

ACA Plans Florida — Questions We Answer Every Day

The tiers differ in how costs are shared between you and the insurer — not in the quality of care. Bronze covers about 60% of costs (lowest premium, highest deductible). Silver covers about 70% and is the only tier eligible for Cost Sharing Reductions. Gold covers about 80%. Platinum covers about 90% with the highest premium but lowest out-of-pocket costs. We walk you through which one makes financial sense for your situation.

Silver plans are the only tier where Cost Sharing Reductions apply. If your income qualifies, a Silver plan can reduce your deductible to as low as $100–$300 — far better than a Bronze plan at $7,000+. Choosing Bronze when you qualify for CSRs on Silver means leaving significant savings on the table. We check this before making any recommendation.

Many Florida residents qualify for premium tax credits based on household income and size. These reduce your monthly premium before you pay. Enhanced subsidies that were in place 2021–2025 expired at the end of 2025, so 2026 subsidy amounts are based on standard ACA rules. We run your specific numbers at no cost to show you exactly what you qualify for. See our Florida subsidies guide for more detail.

For 2026, the maximum out-of-pocket cap on ACA Marketplace plans is $10,600 for an individual and $21,200 for a family. Once you hit this limit, your insurance covers 100% of covered in-network services for the rest of the year. Silver plans with Cost Sharing Reductions can reduce this limit significantly for qualifying households.

Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage runs November 1 through December 15, 2026 — shorter than prior years due to a rule change. Plans selected by December 15 take effect January 1, 2027. Outside of Open Enrollment, you need a qualifying life event for a Special Enrollment Period. See our Special Enrollment guide or call us to check your eligibility window.
